I believe that St. Mary of the Assumption School, a landmark in education since 1874, is the best-kept secret in northern Baltimore City. The warm, friendly atmosphere; our experienced, dedicated faculty; and our supportive parents give the school a true feeling of family. As principal I have been most impressed by the dedication of my faculty to the success of the children in their care. Our small class sizes allow teachers to give individual attention to students, while creative scheduling allows advanced students to move forward appropriately. We believe that kids learn by doing. Toward this end we take advantage of a variety of enrichment activities and field trips.

I am delighted to announce that in 2006 St. Mary of the Assumption School was named a partner school to nearby Loyola College.  This provides many unique opportunities for our students who benefit from classroom aides; speech and hearing screenings; after school programs such as Homework Club, Math Tutoring, Sports Clinics, and Photography Club; as well as field trip and sports opportunities at Loyola College.  In addition, students may take advantage of services such as Saturday Scholars, speech & language services, educational testing, and counseling at the nearby Loyola Center at Belvedere Square.  These services are offered at a greatly reduced cost to St. Mary’s students based on the ability to pay.  In addition, our faculty benefits from exceptional staff development opportunities!

At St. Mary of the Assumption School, we realize that we are educating children to be successful in a world that will be very different by the time they are adults. It is up to us to provide them with the skills to access and use information, the ability to think critically and make good decisions, the work habits needed for achievement, and the curiosity for learning that will make them successful in that world. It is equally important for us to foster in our students strong Christian values modeled on the life of Jesus, compassion for others demonstrated through service, and a sense of stewardship that will make our citizens of tomorrow productive, faith-filled members of society.

At St. Mary of the Assumption School you will find faculty, parents, St. Mary’s Parish, and Loyola College all working toward the success of our children. These children are the future of our community, both locally and globally. We have a stake in their success!
